Herman Andrews (Drew) is the Development Associate at 24/7 Gateway, LLC. His responsibilities include cultivating and relationship building with businesses, civic and government leaders to end homelessness in Atlanta. In this capacity, he has been instrumental in heightening the corporate consciousness to social responsibility by developing sustainable initiatives that create value in the communities where many of their employees live and work. 

 

Drew is a retired veteran, having served in the Army for 21 years. During his service, he participated in many humanitarian missions helping underdeveloped countries around the world with healthcare and community development. 

 He is a civil rights activist and an active member of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Guild (an auxiliary of the Urban League). He is a strong advocate for the community.  He speaks out against voter suppression, wage stagnation, poor healthcare and discrimination of any form. He first joined the Urban League movement while stationed at Ft. Benning, in Columbus, Ga. There he was the Urban League Guild of Greater Columbus Secretary and Publicity Chair and was awarded the President’s award for volunteer of the year. In 2011, Drew was elected President of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Guild, the first male to be in its 65 year history. In 2012, he was inducted into 'Who’s Who in Black Atlanta' listed as one of the most influential people in the city.  

 

Drew is currently an executive committee member of the National Council of Urban League Guilds and chairs its virtual town hall meetings.  He addresses Police Reform and Violence Reduction in our communities. He has solicited the participation of US Congressman Hank Johnson, Attorney Ben Crump (Trayvon Martin and Michael Browns’ family lawyer), Alicia Garza - Co-founder of Black Lives Matter, Dwayne Crawford - Executive Director of National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), State Representatives, and Directors from Citizens Review Boards and others who have answered his Call to Action. Drew has been influential in developing an action plan to mend the fractured relationship between the Community and the police. In December 2015, Drew received the Urban League’s highest award for his outstanding work to end injustices occurring in our community.
